2017 Gloucester Marathon & 50K Race Day Instructions and Information - PLEASE READ

Please take the time to read all of the race day instructions below. A copy of the 2017 Race Day Instructions and Information is also available to download from our website www.beyondthelimitations.org.uk  Please make sure you read through the instructions thoroughly.

Registration and general enquiries: located within the small Sports Hall in Severn Vale Sports Centre. Your race number and chip is to be collected on the day which will include a label to write your name and race number for your baggage

Start Time

The race will start at 10.30 am on Sunday 5th February 2017

RACE NUMBER

Please fix your number to the front of your vest, pinned at all four corners, without folding or writing on it.

Personal and Medical details

As a condition of entry to this event you are required to complete your personal and medical details in the boxes on the back of your race number. You also agree that these may be made available, along with any other personal details to the event organisers and the relevant medical race services. In the event of an emergency part of the event terms and conditions are that you agree to supplying your contact details to these bodies. By displaying your number you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of this event. Your next of kin/emergency contact should be someone who will be contactable on the day of this event.

For reasons of health and safety this number must not be transferred to another person. Doing so without the permission of the event organisers will result in disqualification.

Race Venue

Severn Vale Sports Centre, School Lane, Quedgeley, Gloucester, GL2 4PR getting there by road leave the M5 at junction 12. Follow signs to Gloucester (A38) take the second major exit left up the slip road (B4008) signed Hardwicke, follow the B4008 through Hardwicke to the next roundabout, turn left into Field Court Drive. Keep on this road to the next roundabout, take the third exit off this roundabout into School Lane .Severn Vale Sports Centre is 200 metres on the left.

Car Parking

There is limited parking at Severn Vale Sports Centre once this car park is full stewards will direct you to an overflow car park a short distance from race HQ. The main car parking is at
The Park and Ride on Telford Way 1 mile from race HQ to get there by road from the M5 Junction 12 follow signs to Gloucester (A38)  at the first roundabout from the M5 take the second exit A38 and then take the next exit left up the slip road (B4008) signed Hardwicke follow the B4008 to the next roundabout take the third exit off this roundabout into Naas Lane, keep on this road for 300 metres to the next roundabout, take the third exit off this roundabout into Telford Way the Park and Ride car park is 200 metres on the right.

Race Briefing

Assemble for briefing in the Small Sports Hall at 9.55am. Following the briefing athletes will be taken to the start by the race organisers. This will be a short walk of 560 metres for the 50K and 700 metres for the Marathon from Severn Vale Sports Centre. Both starts are on School Lane Quedgeley.

Baggage

Bag storage will be available in Severn Vale sports hall. Baggage is left at the owner’s risk.

Course

The course has a UKA Certificate of Course Accuracy. The course is mainly flat with a few inclines on the main loop. Runners must keep to the left hand side of the road for the whole race and at no time cross to the right hand side of the road to cut corners this may cause danger to themselves and other road users. Therefore please follow the advice of the marshals and if running in groups keep no more than two abreast and keep to the left hand side of the road. Should you be seen running in such a way as to cause danger to other road users then you risk disqualification.

In the interest of your own safety and that of your fellow runners you will not be allowed to run wearing an MP3 player or portable audio device (iPod or similar) and you will be disqualified. The roads will not be closed to traffic (accept at the start) and
You will not be fully aware of traffic around you. Neither will you hear instructions from marshals or the police.

The Course support is for 5 hours 30 minutes only and will not be available after 16.00 hrs. If you have not reached mile 17 by 14.45hrs this is at the end of the main loop you will be offered the opportunity of retiring from the race and instructed to turn right to the finish.

The finish is 200 metres from Severn Vale Sports Centre race HQ.

Time Limit

The organisers have imposed a strict 5 hours 30 minutes time limit and at 16.00 hrs the marshalling will progressively be removed from the course in accordance with this time limit.

Spectators

Because of the narrowness around the course spectators must not follow the race by bicycle or car or vans as this can be dangerous. The pacing of runners by cyclists is against British Athletics rules and any runner deemed to have been paced will be disqualified.

Water stations

Water stations are located approximately every three miles and will provide Water or High 5.

Details will be sent out to you if you have register your email address when entering the event and you will receive updates and news.

Retirements

If you cannot complete the course, keep your race number on until you report to a marshal, feed station or first aid point. Vehicles will be on the course to collect you and take you to the finish. A medical recovery team will be on hand at the finish should you require assistance. Please feel free to ask for help at any time. Please hand in your number with timing chip attached to a marshal or other official.

Post Race

At the end of the race you will receive a medal and T/Shirt

Refreshments

A range of refreshments (Tea, Coffee, Sandwiches, Cakes will be on sale in the Small Sports Hall race HQ)

Facilities

Hot showers will be available. Do make use of them and change into warm clothes as soon as possible.

Massage

Post-race massage will be available in the Small Sports hall at Severn Vale Sports Centre Race HQ obviously there will be a fee

Medical Support

First aid and emergency cover is provided by St John Ambulance who will be on the course. There will also be staff on duty at the first Aid point at the finish.

Extreme Weather Conditions

In the event of extreme weather conditions the organisers reserve the right to cancel the race at any time.

Cancellation

In the unfortunate cancellation of the event through circumstances beyond the control of the race organisers there will be no refund of race fees but you will be offered a free entry into another of our races in 2017 and 2018.
